Autism spectrum disorders are a set of different neurodevelopmental alterations linked to an abnormal cerebral maturation that begins already in the fetal period, long before the birth of the child. The disorder occurs in a very variable way from case to case, but in general is characterized by the impairment of communication and social interaction and the presence of restricted and repetitive interests and behaviors and can manifest itself through:
- Stereotypical use of movements, language or objects
- Excessive adherence to routines, motor or verbal rituals and / or resistance to change
- Fixation for special or restricted interests in an abnormal way in duration or intensity
- Hyper or Hypo reactivity to sensory stimuli or unusual interest in particular details of the environment.
The following pathologies are part of the DPS: Autistic Disorder, Asperger’s Disorder and Generalized Developmental Disorder.
